Big congratulations to IHOP of Brick, NJ, which has a new claim to fame following this year's National Pancake Day on February 23: top fundraiser in the country! The south Jersey restaurant raised $14,000, tripling last year's donation to Children's Miracle Network.
Owner Lou Maschi was thrilled with the support from employees and local diners.
"I realized how important it is to donate to Children's Miracle Network because everyday they make a difference in the lives of children," remarked Maschi. "Being able to walk, or get up in the morning without any physical pain, is something we take for granted. Once you realize children all over the country face these simple tasks with difficulty, it makes you re-think what really matters in life."
Patients Kaitlin Clutter, and Michael and Mackenzie Wight got in on the fun in Brick, flipping flapjacks beside Miss New Jersey, Ashley Shaffer.
A recent gift from the Thomas J. Carnevali, Jr. Foundation included a very special art installation and new therapy equipment at PSE&G Children's Specialized Hospital. The Foundation donated six pieces of original artwork and $8,400 to purchase the new equipment at the hospital. The artwork was done by Thomas J. Carnevali, Jr., a talented graphic designer and artist, who died as the result of a car accident at the age of 20. Thomas's brother, Michael, sustained a traumatic brain injury as a result of the same accident, and was treated at PSE&G Children's Specialized.
"This hospital treated not just Michael, but our family, during a very difficult time," remarked mom Georgann "GG" Carnevali. "We are very proud of how far Michael has come and it is an honor to remember Thomas with this donation."
